SUMMARY:Virtual Ticket - 2024-2025 Masterworks Concert Series Season Finale - Evergreen
DESCRIPTION:2024-2025 Season Masterworks Concert Series\nSeason Finale\nEvergreen Performance\nLIVE-STREAM ONLY\nECO’s 2024-2025 Masterworks Concert Series will come to a close with our Season Finale Concert\, featuring a unique duo of works for orchestra and chorus. We are delighted to continue our collaborative friendship with the Evergreen Chorale as we perform one of the greatest masterpieces of the past alongside a new and innovative work. \nWe invite you to experience the world premiere of a new composition for chorus and chamber orchestra by William Hill\, ECO’s Music Director and Colorado Symphony’s Principal Timpanist. ECO is proud to continue our longstanding tradition of premiering new works by talented contemporary composers. Performing under the baton of the composer is a rewarding and fulfilling experience! \nThis groundbreaking work promises to expand the boundaries of choral music. By merging the intimacy of chamber ensemble with the power of the human voice\, Hill creates a unique and immersive sonic experience. \nOur season will close with the culmination of the Beethoven Symphonic Cycle that William Hill and the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra embarked upon almost a decade ago. \nLudwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D Minor\, Op. 125 is one of the absolute greatest masterworks of classical music. It is Beethoven’s final complete symphony\, and the first example of a major composer scoring vocal parts in a symphony. \nThis epic work\, often hailed as the greatest orchestral composition ever written\, is a testament to the human spirit. It is truly remarkable and almost impossible to imagine that this work was composed at a time when Beethoven was nearly completely deaf – the music is an incarnation of Beethoven’s will to create. \nFrom its dramatic opening to the triumphant choral finale\, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 is truly a magnificent journey that must be experienced. We invite you to join us on this journey at our Season Finale Concerts! \nECO’s Virtual Tickets are offered as “pay what you like”. \nThere is no difference between the price levels – please choose whatever price you feel is appropriate! \nPROGRAM:\nWilliam Hill\nNew Composition for Chorus and Orchestra \nWORLD PREMIERE \nLudwig van Beethoven\nSymphony No. 9 in D Minor\, Op. 125 \nI – Allegro ma non troppo\, un poco maestoso \nII – Molto vivace \nIII – Adagio molto e cantabile \nIV – Finale \nSoloists to be announced soon! \n— \nAll tickets to ECO Concerts and Events now include links to access the live-stream and video-on-demand replay of the concert! \nCan’t watch the concert at the time of the performance? SUMMARY:Virtual Ticket - 2025-2026 Masterworks Concert Series Fall Concert - Evergreen
DESCRIPTION:2025-2026 Season Masterworks Concert Series\nFall Concert\nEvergreen Performance\nLive-Stream Ticket Only!\nJoin us for a program of thought-provoking music that spans the human experience from heartfelt introspection to unbridled joy. The concert begins with the achingly beautiful Adagietto from Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5\, a lyrical and intimate movement that is often considered a wordless love letter. \nNext\, longtime ECO pianist Peggy Lyon returns to perform J.S. Bach’s Keyboard Concerto No. 3\, BWV 1054 in D Major. Modeled after the famous E-Major Violin Concerto BWV 1042 but transposed to D Major to reach the highest key on the harpsichords of the day\, Bach’s third keyboard concerto uses da capo ABA form in the first movement – a rare occurrence in Bach’s oeuvre. \nThe program concludes with Johannes Brahms’ magnificent Symphony No. 2\, a work of rich orchestration that moves from pastoral serenity to a triumphant and exhilarating finale. \nPROGRAM:\nGUSTAV MAHLER\nSymphony No. 5 in C-Sharp Minor \nIV – Adagietto \nJOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH\nKeyboard Concerto No. 3 in D Major\, BWV 1054 \nI – Allegro \nII – Adagio \nIII – Allegro \nPeggy Lyon – Piano \nJOHANNES BRAHMS\nSymphony No. 2 in D Major\, Op. 73 \nI – Allegro non troppo \nII – Adagio non troppo \nIII – Allegretto grazioso (quasi andantino) \nIV – Allegro con spirito \n  \nAll tickets to ECO Concerts and Events now include links to access the live-stream and video-on-demand replay of the concert! \nCan’t watch the concert at the time of the performance? DESCRIPTION:2025-2026 Season Masterworks Concert Series\nPrelude to Spring Concert\nEvergreen Performance\nLive-Stream Ticket Only!\nSee Saturday’s performance! Sunday’s performance will not be live-streamed\, but you can still purchase virtual tickets to see yesterday’s performance. \nJoin the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra and experience dramatic contrasts and heroic triumphs with a program that begins with the theatrical flair of the Parisian stage. Our Prelude to Spring Concert opens with Jacques Offenbach’s high-spirited Overture to “Orpheus in the Underworld\,” a witty and satirical romp featuring the now infamous “Can-Can.” \nFollowing this\, the Colorado Symphony’s Assistant Principal Bass Nicholas Recuber steps into the spotlight for the WORLD-PREMIERE performance of William Hill’s captivating Fantasy for Double Bass\, Electric Bass and Orchestra\, a rare and stunning showcase for an underutilized instrument for solo roles. \nThe evening concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s powerful and turbulent Symphony No. 7\, a work of profound struggle and defiant heroism that culminates in a glorious\, life-affirming finale. This work is widely regarded as one of the greatest works in the symphonic repertoire\, with musicologist Donald Tovey saying “along with the four Brahms symphonies and Schubert’s Ninth\, it is among the greatest and purest examples in this art-form since Beethoven”. \nPROGRAM: \nJACQUES OFFENBACH \n“Orphée aux enfers” (“Orpheus in the Underworld”) \nAct I\, Scene I – Ouverture \nWILLIAM HILL \nFantasy for Double Bass\, Electric Bass and Orchestra \nNicholas Recuber – Double Bass\, Electric Bass \nANTONÍN DVOŘÁK \nSymphony No. 7 in D Minor\, Op. 70\, B. 141 \nI – Allegro maestoso \nII – Poco adagio \nIII – Scherzo: Vivace – Poco meno mosso \nIV – Finale: Allegro \n\nAll tickets to ECO Concerts and Events now include links to access the live-stream and video-on-demand replay of the concert! \nCan’t watch the concert at the time of the performance? SUMMARY:Virtual Ticket - 2025-2026 Masterworks Concert Series Season Finale Concert – Evergreen
DESCRIPTION:Evergreen Performance\nLive-Stream Ticket Only!\nJoin us for an unforgettable Season Finale showcasing the grand and heroic genius of Ludwig van Beethoven. The concert opens with the triumphant Piano Concerto No. 5\, “Emperor\,” featuring the dazzling Colorado native but internationally acclaimed pianist and Steinway Artist Katie Mahan. Known for her poetic interpretations and brilliant technique\, Mahan brings a fresh perspective to this majestic work\, which is Beethoven’s final and most celebrated piano concerto. \nThe program concludes with the infectious energy of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7\, a work famously described by Richard Wagner as “the apotheosis of the dance” for its relentless and joyous rhythmic drive that builds to a thrilling and exuberant conclusion. The work was composed during 1811 and 1812 as Beethoven spent time in the spa town of Teplitz – hoping to improve his health. Beethoven’s hearing loss was markedly worsening\, but nonetheless the Symphony No. 7 is considered one of his crowning achievements. The symphony premiered on December 8th\, 1813 in Vienna with something of an all-star orchestra\, including Schuppanzigh and Spohr\, and upon the performance of the Allegretto movement the audience immediately demanded an encore! \nPROGRAM: \nLUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN\nPiano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat Major\, Op. 73\, “Emperor”\nKatie Mahan – Piano \nLUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN\nSymphony No. 7 in A Major\, Op. 92\nI – Poco sostenuto – Vivace\nII – Allegretto\nIII – Presto – Assai meno presto (trio)\nIV – Allegro con brio \nAll tickets to ECO Concerts and Events now include links to access the live-stream and video-on-demand replay of the concert! \nCan’t watch the concert at the time of the performance? SUMMARY:Virtual Ticket - 2026-2027 Masterworks Concert Series Season Opener Concert – Denver
DESCRIPTION:Live-Stream Ticket Only!\nSeason Opener Concert\nDenver Performance\nJoin the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra for a captivating afternoon of music to launch our 45th season! To celebrate 45 years\, each Masterworks Concerts will open with a special piece commissioned from a local composer. This dynamic program will begin with a special performance highlighting the creative work of ECO’s very own long-time cellist and arranger\, Mike Marecak. His piece brings a wonderful\, intimate touch to the stage that celebrates the artistry right here within our orchestra family. \nNext\, the spotlight turns to classical guitarist Masakazu Ito—an internationally acclaimed performer and the Music Director of the nearby Colorado School of Mines Philharmonic Orchestra. Ito joins ECO to perform Mauro Giuliani‘s groundbreaking Guitar Concerto No. 1. Premiered in Vienna in 1808\, this piece stands as the most outstanding early masterpiece written to elevate the classical guitar from a mere accompaniment instrument into a true\, commanding solo voice capable of dancing alongside a full chamber orchestra. \nECO’s Season Opener Concert culminates with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s brilliant Symphony No. 36\, “Linz”. In late 1783\, while stopping in the town of Linz on his way back to Vienna\, Mozart realized he did not have a single symphony score in his travel trunk for an upcoming concert. Working at a breakneck speed\, he sat down and composed this entire festive\, blazing masterpiece in just four days. The result is an ambitious\, joyfully grand symphony that marks the first time Mozart ever utilized a slow\, dramatic introduction to kick off a symphonic work. \nProgram: \nMike Marecak\nVariations on O’Desayo \nMauro Giuliani\nGuitar Concerto No. 1 in A Major\, Op. 30 \nI – Allegro maestoso\nII – Andantino (Siciliana)\nIII – Alla Polacca: Allegretto \nMasakazu Ito – Guitar \nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart\nSymphony No. 36 in C Major\, K. 425 – “Linz” \nI – Adagio – Allegro spiritoso\nII – Poco adagio\nIII – Menuetto\nIV – Presto \nECO Virtual Tickets feature choose your price tickets! SUMMARY:Virtual Ticket - 2026-2027 Masterworks Concert Series - Fall Concert
DESCRIPTION:Livestream Only Tickets!\nMasterworks Concert Series\nFall Concert\nDenver Performance\nJoin the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra for a deeply expressive and brilliant afternoon of music that spans the depth of the human soul\, from wordless storytelling to youthful symphonic joy. To celebrate 45 ECO seasons\, each Masterworks Concerts will open with a special piece commissioned from a local composer. Our Fall Concert opens with a special performance highlighting the creative work of Colorado composer Cindi Hsu. Known for her richly colorful\, “storytelling” composition style\, Hsu’s music captures true human emotions with incredible depth and open sincerity\, providing a captivating start to our musical journey. \nNext\, the spotlight shines on the virtuosic Jason Shafer\, Principal Clarinetist for the Colorado Symphony\, as he joins ECO to perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s immortal Clarinet Concerto in A Major. Completed just two months before his untimely death at the age of 35\, this masterpiece stands as Mozart’s instrumental swan song. Originally composed for his friend and fellow Freemason Anton Stadler\, this piece is brimming with operatic lyricism and undisturbed\, serene beauty\, the concerto effectively treats the clarinet like a soaring soprano soloist. \nOur Fall concert culminates with Franz Schubert’s vibrant Symphony No. 1 in D Major. Remarkably\, Schubert completed this massive\, impressive piece of orchestral music in 1813 when he was just sixteen years old. Written while he was finishing his studies under the famous Antonio Salieri\, the symphony bursts with a clean\, classical style deeply inspired by Haydn and Mozart. From its stately\, dramatic opening chords to the relentless\, scampering energy of its violin-driven finale\, this youthful masterpiece perfectly showcases the emerging genius of a teenage symphonist. \nProgram: \nCindi Hsu\nThe Intangibles – World Premiere! \nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart\nClarinet Concerto In A Major\, K. 622 \nI – Allegro\nII – Adagio\nIII – Rondo: Allegro \nJason Shafer – Clarinet \nFranz Schubert\nSymphony No. 1 in D Major\, D 82 \nI – Adagio — Allegro vivace\nII – Andante\nIII – Menuetto: Allegro\nIV – Allegro vivace \nECO Virtual Tickets feature choose your price tickets! SUMMARY:Virtual Ticket - 2026-2027 Masterworks Concert Series - Spring Concert
DESCRIPTION:Livestream Only Tickets!\nMasterworks Concert Series\nSpring Concert\nDenver Performance\nJoin the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra for a thrilling afternoon of dramatic contrast\, vivid rhythm\, and symphonic innovation as we shake off the winter chill. The program opens with a special performance showcasing a brand-new work from local composer Bob Bassett as all Masterworks Concerts have done during our 45th season. Commissioned specifically for ECO\, this piece promises to capture the ensemble’s unique spirit and deliver an engaging start to our musical journey this afternoon. \nNext\, we journey to the sultry streets of Argentina with Astor Piazzolla’s mesmerizing The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires (Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas). Featuring the brilliant artistry of local virtuosos Lydia Sviatlovskaya on violin and Evan Orman on cello\, this masterpiece reimagines the traditional four-season cycle through the lens of nuevo tango. Originally written for Piazzolla’s own quintet\, this orchestral arrangement pulses with seductive syncopations\, gritty street rhythms\, and brilliant flashes of technical fireworks. Keep your ears open for clever\, tongue-in-cheek musical quotes from Antonio Vivaldi’s famous baroque Four Seasons hidden throughout the passionate\, tango-infused score. \nECO’s Spring Concert concludes with Robert Schumann’s revolutionary Symphony No. 4 in D Minor. Dissatisfied with standard symphonic structures\, Schumann originally wrote this piece in 1841 as a “Symphonic Fantasy\,” explicitly directing that all four movements be played straight through without pause. Bound together by shared thematic threads that morph and evolve as the music progresses\, the symphony journeys from a dark\, brooding introduction into an exhilarating\, triumphant finale of unbridled joy. \nProgram: \nBob Bassett\nInexplicable  \nAstor Piazzolla\nThe Four Seasons Of Buenos Aires (Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas) \nI. SUMMARY:Virtual Ticket - 2026-2027 Masterworks Concert Series - Season Finale Concert
DESCRIPTION:Livestream Only Tickets!\nMasterworks Concert Series\nSeason Finale Concert\nDenver Performance\nJoin the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra for an unforgettable grand finale to our 45th season\, celebrating sweeping masterworks\, brilliance\, and home-grown artistic masterpieces! The program opens with a special performance of a brand-new composition by ECO’s very own multi-talented Music Director\, William Hill. Celebrated for his evocative storytelling and sophisticated orchestrations\, Mr. Hill brings a captivating world-premiere voice to the stage to launch our celebratory afternoon. \nNext\, the spotlight turns to popular local piano favorite Jamie Shaak as she joins ECO to perform Maurice Ravel’s dazzling Piano Concerto in G Major. Written between 1929 and 1931 after Ravel took an inspiring tour of the United States\, this spectacular concerto is heavily infused with the sounds of American jazz and Gershwin-esque rhythms. From the literal whip-crack that opens the first movement to the deeply touching\, heart-wrenching beauty of the long piano solo in the second movement\, the piece culminates in a breathless\, high-speed musical carnival that pushes the bounds of piano virtuosity. \nThe concert and the season culminate with Antonín Dvořák’s monumental Symphony No. 9 in E Minor\, “From the New World” Composed during Dvořák’s time as the director of the National Conservatory of Music in New York City\, this iconic masterwork bridges European symphonic tradition with the wide-open horizons of late-19th-century America. Inspired by African-American spirituals and Native American melodies\, the symphony captures a profound sense of yearning\, hope\, and discovery. From the achingly beautiful English horn solo in the Largo to the thunderous\, driving brass chords of the grand finale\, it remains one of the most beloved and thrilling symphonies ever written. \nProgram: \nWilliam Hill\nTBA – World Premiere! \nMaurice Ravel\nPiano Concerto In G Major \nI.
