DESCRIPTION:Beethoven\, Bruch\, and Hill\nECO’s 2022-2023 Masterworks Concert Series comes to a close with a very fitting finale! Our Season Finale concert features two great works by Beethoven alongside two fantastic showpieces for viola featuring CSO Principal Violist Basil Vendryes! \nThe concert program begins with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Overture from “The Creatures of Prometheus”. Composed in 1801\, this work is the only full-length ballet composed by Beethoven. The libretto is an allegory based on the mythical story of Prometheus\, who stole fire from Zeus to create mankind from clay. Overtures from ballets and operas typically become popular concert pieces for orchestral performances\, and the overture from this ballet is no exception. \nThe concert continues with Max Bruch’s famous Romanze for Viola and String Orchestra. Originally composed in 1911 for Maurice Vieux\, the principal violist at the Paris Opera and Conservatoire Orchestra\, this lovely eight-minute work features beautiful\, sweeping melodies characteristic of the late romantic style. \nNext\, the world-premiere performance of ECO Music Director William Hill’s new composition – his Concerto for Viola\, Strings\, and Percussion! Mr. Hill’s compositions are at once strikingly unique yet intimately familiar – we are very much looking forward to hearing this new piece\, even more so considering Basil Vendryes will be the soloist! \nOur 2022-2023 Season will conclude with a performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 in F Major\, Op. 68. Known as the “Pastorale” Symphony\, Op. 68 was composed in 1808 simultaneously with his universally popular Fifth Symphony. The Sixth Symphony is unique in Beethoven’s oeuvre in that it is one of the few pieces containing explicitly programmatic content. Each movement’s narrative is offered through its title and correlates with the music in an imaginative manner. Beethoven’s love for nature and the outdoors is greatly reflected in the expression of this piece. Join us at 6pm on June 23rd\, 2023 at the beautiful Mount Vernon Canyon Club to support the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra and celebrate the mountain classical music community. \nWe will bring our incredible 2022-2023 Season to a close with an intimate gathering of the ECO community for an evening of world-class jazz\, delicious hors d’oeuvres\, and great times with friends. ECO’s Music Director William Hill will be performing two sets with his Grammy-nominated band Bill Hill and Friends\, our silent auction will offer the opportunity to bid for unique items and memorable experiences\, and we’ll be recognizing some of the amazing people from the ECO community that have made a significant impact throughout this season. \nThis year\, the ECO Jazz Gala will feature two parts: first\, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm\, we will celebrate a successful 2022-2023 Season with hors d’oeuvres\, our silent auction\, and conversations with friends while Bill Hill and Friends perform a light swing / jazz set. Love to dance? Sign up for our first-ever swing dance competition! Enjoy a relaxed\, intimate atmosphere and chat with Bill\, his band\, ECO musicians\, board members\, and other music-lovers from the ECO community. \nThen\, from 7:30pm to 9:00pm\, the Grammy-nominated group Bill Hill and Friends will perform an avant-garde jazz-fusion set in a more traditional concert setting. This will be a truly memorable musical experience! \nECO Jazz Gala TICKET OPTIONS\nComplete Gala Experience ~ $85 ~ 6-9pm\nComplimentary hors d’oeuvres\, one free drink\, cash bar\, a swing dance competition\, and other swing/light jazz music from ECO’s Music Director and Colorado Symphony Principal Timpanist Bill Hill’s Grammy-nominated band ‘Bill Hill and Friends’. This award-winning\, Grammy nominated band is comprised of world-class musicians from both the jazz and classical music world. Bill Hill is ECO’s own Music Director\, but you may have also seen him performing at Boettcher Concert Hall as the Colorado Symphony’s Principal Timpanist. Much of the music you will hear during this performance has been composed by Bill himself!
