SUMMARY:2026-2027 Masterworks Concert Series Season Opener Concert – Denver
DESCRIPTION:Masterworks Concert Series\nSeason Opener Concert\nDenver Performance\nJoin the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra for a captivating afternoon of music to launch our 45th season! To celebrate 45 years\, each Masterworks Concerts will open with a special piece commissioned from a local composer. This dynamic program will begin with a special performance highlighting the creative work of ECO’s very own long-time cellist and arranger\, Mike Marecak. His piece brings a wonderful\, intimate touch to the stage that celebrates the artistry right here within our orchestra family. \nNext\, the spotlight turns to classical guitarist Masakazu Ito—an internationally acclaimed performer and the Music Director of the nearby Colorado School of Mines Philharmonic Orchestra. Ito joins ECO to perform Mauro Giuliani‘s groundbreaking Guitar Concerto No. 1. Premiered in Vienna in 1808\, this piece stands as the most outstanding early masterpiece written to elevate the classical guitar from a mere accompaniment instrument into a true\, commanding solo voice capable of dancing alongside a full chamber orchestra. \nECO’s Season Opener Concert culminates with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s brilliant Symphony No. 36\, “Linz”. In late 1783\, while stopping in the town of Linz on his way back to Vienna\, Mozart realized he did not have a single symphony score in his travel trunk for an upcoming concert. Working at a breakneck speed\, he sat down and composed this entire festive\, blazing masterpiece in just four days. The result is an ambitious\, joyfully grand symphony that marks the first time Mozart ever utilized a slow\, dramatic introduction to kick off a symphonic work. \nProgram: \nMike Marecak\nVariations on O’Desayo \nMauro Giuliani\nGuitar Concerto No. 1 in A Major\, Op. 30 \nI – Allegro maestoso\nII – Andantino (Siciliana)\nIII – Alla Polacca: Allegretto \nMasakazu Ito – Guitar \nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart\nSymphony No. 36 in C Major\, K. 425 – “Linz” \nI – Adagio – Allegro spiritoso\nII – Poco adagio\nIII – Menuetto\nIV – Presto \nAll tickets to ECO Concerts and Events now include links to access the live-stream and video-on-demand replay of the concert! \nCan’t watch the concert at the time of the performance? You can watch the stream anytime that is convenient for you – forever. \nLooking for Live-Stream Only tickets to this event? Click here!

SUMMARY:2026-2027 Masterworks Concert Series - Fall Concert – Denver
DESCRIPTION:Masterworks Concert Series\nFall Concert\nDenver Performance\nJoin the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra for a deeply expressive and brilliant afternoon of music that spans the depth of the human soul\, from wordless storytelling to youthful symphonic joy. To celebrate 45 ECO seasons\, each Masterworks Concerts will open with a special piece commissioned from a local composer. Our Fall Concert opens with a special performance highlighting the creative work of Colorado composer Cindi Hsu. Known for her richly colorful\, “storytelling” composition style\, Hsu’s music captures true human emotions with incredible depth and open sincerity\, providing a captivating start to our musical journey. \nNext\, the spotlight shines on the virtuosic Jason Shafer\, Principal Clarinetist for the Colorado Symphony\, as he joins ECO to perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s immortal Clarinet Concerto in A Major. Completed just two months before his untimely death at the age of 35\, this masterpiece stands as Mozart’s instrumental swan song. Originally composed for his friend and fellow Freemason Anton Stadler\, this piece is brimming with operatic lyricism and undisturbed\, serene beauty\, the concerto effectively treats the clarinet like a soaring soprano soloist. \nOur Fall concert culminates with Franz Schubert’s vibrant Symphony No. 1 in D Major. Remarkably\, Schubert completed this massive\, impressive piece of orchestral music in 1813 when he was just sixteen years old. Written while he was finishing his studies under the famous Antonio Salieri\, the symphony bursts with a clean\, classical style deeply inspired by Haydn and Mozart. From its stately\, dramatic opening chords to the relentless\, scampering energy of its violin-driven finale\, this youthful masterpiece perfectly showcases the emerging genius of a teenage symphonist. \nProgram: \nCindi Hsu\nThe Intangibles – World Premiere! \nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart\nClarinet Concerto In A Major\, K. 622 \nI – Allegro\nII – Adagio\nIII – Rondo: Allegro \nJason Shafer – Clarinet \nFranz Schubert\nSymphony No. 1 in D Major\, D 82 \nI – Adagio — Allegro vivace\nII – Andante\nIII – Menuetto: Allegro\nIV – Allegro vivace \nAll tickets to ECO Concerts and Events now include links to access the live-stream and video-on-demand replay of the concert! \nCan’t watch the concert at the time of the performance? SUMMARY:2026-2027 Masterworks Concert Series - Spring Concert – Denver
DESCRIPTION:Masterworks Concert Series\nSpring Concert\nDenver Performance\nJoin the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra for a thrilling afternoon of dramatic contrast\, vivid rhythm\, and symphonic innovation as we shake off the winter chill. The program opens with a special performance showcasing a brand-new work from local composer Bob Bassett as all Masterworks Concerts have done during our 45th season. Commissioned specifically for ECO\, this piece promises to capture the ensemble’s unique spirit and deliver an engaging start to our musical journey this afternoon. \nNext\, we journey to the sultry streets of Argentina with Astor Piazzolla’s mesmerizing The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires (Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas). Featuring the brilliant artistry of local virtuosos Lydia Sviatlovskaya on violin and Evan Orman on cello\, this masterpiece reimagines the traditional four-season cycle through the lens of nuevo tango. Originally written for Piazzolla’s own quintet\, this orchestral arrangement pulses with seductive syncopations\, gritty street rhythms\, and brilliant flashes of technical fireworks. Keep your ears open for clever\, tongue-in-cheek musical quotes from Antonio Vivaldi’s famous baroque Four Seasons hidden throughout the passionate\, tango-infused score. \nECO’s Spring Concert concludes with Robert Schumann’s revolutionary Symphony No. 4 in D Minor. Dissatisfied with standard symphonic structures\, Schumann originally wrote this piece in 1841 as a “Symphonic Fantasy\,” explicitly directing that all four movements be played straight through without pause. Bound together by shared thematic threads that morph and evolve as the music progresses\, the symphony journeys from a dark\, brooding introduction into an exhilarating\, triumphant finale of unbridled joy. \nProgram: \nBob Bassett\nInexplicable  \nAstor Piazzolla\nThe Four Seasons Of Buenos Aires (Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas) \nI. From the literal whip-crack that opens the first movement to the deeply touching\, heart-wrenching beauty of the long piano solo in the second movement\, the piece culminates in a breathless\, high-speed musical carnival that pushes the bounds of piano virtuosity. \nThe concert and the season culminate with Antonín Dvořák’s monumental Symphony No. 9 in E Minor\, “From the New World” Composed during Dvořák’s time as the director of the National Conservatory of Music in New York City\, this iconic masterwork bridges European symphonic tradition with the wide-open horizons of late-19th-century America. Inspired by African-American spirituals and Native American melodies\, the symphony captures a profound sense of yearning\, hope\, and discovery.
