2025-2026 Season Masterworks Concert Series

Season Finale Concert

Evergreen Performance

Join us for an unforgettable Season Finale showcasing the grand and heroic genius of Ludwig van Beethoven. The concert opens with the triumphant Piano Concerto No. 5, “Emperor,” featuring the dazzling Colorado native but internationally acclaimed pianist and Steinway Artist Katie Mahan. Known for her poetic interpretations and brilliant technique, Mahan brings a fresh perspective to this majestic work, which is Beethoven’s final and most celebrated piano concerto.

The program concludes with the infectious energy of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, a work famously described by Richard Wagner as “the apotheosis of the dance” for its relentless and joyous rhythmic drive that builds to a thrilling and exuberant conclusion. The work was composed during 1811 and 1812 as Beethoven spent time in the spa town of Teplitz – hoping to improve his health. Beethoven’s hearing loss was markedly worsening, but nonetheless the Symphony No. 7 is considered one of his crowning achievements. The symphony premiered on December 8th, 1813 in Vienna with something of an all-star orchestra, including Schuppanzigh and Spohr, and upon the performance of the Allegretto movement the audience immediately demanded an encore!
