The Evergreen Chamber Orchestra kicks off our 2025-2026 Masterworks Concert Series with a program that promises to delight and inspire.
Embark on an enchanting musical journey with the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra at our Season Opener Concerts on Saturday and Sunday, October 11th and 12th, 2025. ECO’s 44th season begins with selections from Edvard Grieg’s iconic Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, transporting listeners to a world of trolls and majestic sunrises.
Next, the spotlight shines on soloist Catherine Peterson, Assistant Principal Flute for the Colorado Symphony, performing Jacques Ibert’s virtuosic Concerto for Flute and Orchestra, a masterpiece of sparkling wit and lyrical beauty.
We are so excited to have Ms. Peterson join us as soloist for the first time and are very much looking forward to performing with her!

The program culminates with Felix Mendelssohn’s powerful “Reformation” Symphony No. 5 – a profound work that celebrates the resilience of faith and concludes with a triumphant finale based on Martin Luther’s hymn “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.”

ECO’s 2025-2026 Masterworks Concert Series continues with our Fall Concerts on Saturday and Sunday, November 22nd and 23rd, 2025. Join us for a program of thought-provoking music that spans the human experience from heartfelt introspection to unbridled joy.
The concert begins with the achingly beautiful Adagietto from Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, a lyrical and intimate movement that is often considered a wordless love letter.
Next, longtime ECO pianist Peggy Lyon returns to perform J.S. Bach’s Keyboard Concerto No. 3, BWV 1054 in D Major.
Modeled after the famous E-Major Violin Concerto BWV 1042 but transposed to D Major to reach the highest key on the harpsichords of the day, Bach’s third keyboard concerto uses da capo ABA form in the first movement – a rare occurrence in Bach’s oeuvre.
The program concludes with Johannes Brahms’s magnificent Symphony No. 2, a work of rich orchestration that moves from pastoral serenity to a triumphant and exhilarating finale.

Join the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra and experience dramatic contrasts and heroic triumphs with a program that begins with the theatrical flair of the Parisian stage. Our Prelude to Spring Concerts on Saturday and Sunday, March 22nd and 23rd 2026, will open with Jacques Offenbach’s high-spirited Overture to “Orpheus in the Underworld,” a witty and satirical romp featuring the now infamous “Can-Can.”
Following this, the Colorado Symphony’s Assistant Principal Bass Nicholas Recuber steps into the spotlight for the WORLD-PREMIERE performance of William Hill’s captivating Fantasy for Double Bass, Electric Bass and Orchestra, a rare and stunning showcase for an underutilized instrument for solo roles.
The evening concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s powerful and turbulent Symphony No. 7, a work of profound struggle and defiant heroism that culminates in a glorious, life-affirming finale. This work is widely regarded as one of the greatest works in the symphonic repertoire, with musicologist Donald Tovey saying “along with the four Brahms symphonies and Schubert’s Ninth, it is among the greatest and purest examples in this art-form since Beethoven”.

ECO’s 2025-2026 Masterworks Concert Series will conclude with our Season Finale Concerts on Saturday and Sunday, May 9th and 10th 2026, featuring an all-Beethoven program!
Join us for an unforgettable Season Finale showcasing the grand and heroic genius of Ludwig van Beethoven. The evening opens with the triumphant “Emperor” Piano Concerto No. 5 featuring the dazzling Colorado native and internationally acclaimed pianist and Steinway Artist Katie Mahan. Known for her poetic interpretations and brilliant technique, Mahan brings a fresh perspective to this majestic work, which is Beethoven’s final and most celebrated piano concerto.
The program concludes with the infectious energy of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, a work famously described by Richard Wagner as “the apotheosis of the dance” for its relentless and joyous rhythmic drive that builds to a thrilling and exuberant conclusion. The work was composed during 1811 and 1812 as Beethoven spent time in the spa town of Teplitz – hoping to improve his health.
Beethoven’s hearing loss was markedly worsening, but nonetheless the Symphony No. 7 is considered one of his crowning achievements. The symphony premiered on December 8th, 1813 in Vienna with something of an all-star orchestra, including Schuppanzigh and Spohr, and upon the performance of the Allegretto movement the audience immediately demanded an encore!
