Season Finale Concert

Denver Performance

Join the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra for an unforgettable grand finale to our 45th season, celebrating sweeping masterworks, brilliance, and home-grown artistic masterpieces! The program opens with a special performance of a brand-new composition by ECO’s very own multi-talented Music Director, William Hill. Celebrated for his evocative storytelling and sophisticated orchestrations, Mr. Hill brings a captivating world-premiere voice to the stage to launch our celebratory afternoon.

Next, the spotlight turns to popular local piano favorite Jamie Shaak as she joins ECO to perform Maurice Ravel’s dazzling Piano Concerto in G Major. Written between 1929 and 1931 after Ravel took an inspiring tour of the United States, this spectacular concerto is heavily infused with the sounds of American jazz and Gershwin-esque rhythms. From the literal whip-crack that opens the first movement to the deeply touching, heart-wrenching beauty of the long piano solo in the second movement, the piece culminates in a breathless, high-speed musical carnival that pushes the bounds of piano virtuosity.

The concert and the season culminate with Antonín Dvořák’s monumental Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, “From the New World” Composed during Dvořák’s time as the director of the National Conservatory of Music in New York City, this iconic masterwork bridges European symphonic tradition with the wide-open horizons of late-19th-century America. Inspired by African-American spirituals and Native American melodies, the symphony captures a profound sense of yearning, hope, and discovery. From the achingly beautiful English horn solo in the Largo to the thunderous, driving brass chords of the grand finale, it remains one of the most beloved and thrilling symphonies ever written.
