ECO Musical Moments

No. 17 - 6/5/2020

Tonight’s ECO Musical Moment features our 2019 – 2020 Season Young Artists Solo Competition first prize winner, pianist Jocelynn King!

Jocelynn auditioned for the Young Artists Solo Competition with her performance of the first movement of Saint-Saëns Piano Concerto Op. 22 in G Minor. For the members of our audience who are not pianists – this piece is widely regarded as extraordinarily difficult. Those thunderous and fast alternating two-handed octaves at the central climax, the wide range of dynamics throughout the movement, and the quick arpeggios spanning the entire keyboard make for quite the pyrotechnical display – but always in service of the music and the emotional content of the piece.

Jocelynn executed the piece very well and the judges were very pleased to announce her as the first prize winner. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 we were forced to cancel our Masterworks Concert Series Season Finale, which would have occurred on May 16th and May 17th. Bill Hill and the ECO Board of Directors unanimously agree that we should have Jocelynn performing this piece at the next available opportunity – which we hope is sooner rather than later!

If you’d like to show your support for Jocelynn, please go to http://bit.ly/ECODONATE2 and make a donation or create your own fundraising page.

We’ve raised just under $13,000 of our $20,000 goal – please help us raise the remaining $7,000 by June 30th! We’re so close… let’s make it there together!
