ECO is delighted to kick off our 41st Season with two incredible symphonies! The program begins with one of ECO Music Director William Hill’s newest compositions – his Symphony No. 4. Bill’s Fourth Symphony is composed in the “classical” style featuring four movements.
The second half of the program consists of a classical masterpiece – Franz Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 101 in D Major, H. 1/101 – known by its colloquial name “The Clock” for the ticking rhythm throughout the second movement. This work is part of a group of the twelve London Symphonies that Haydn composed during his two visits to London. The 101st Symphony was composed during his second visit, between 1793 – 1794, and this group contains some of his most well-known works.
